The
Geological Museum of the GSP stands out very prominently amongst
all such institutions in the country on the basis of the largest
collection of meteorites, rocks, minerals, gemstones, building
& decorative stones and fossils. Over seven thousand geological
and paleontological specimens have been displayed in its seven
thematic galleries. While this may not be a full fledged Natural
History Museum befitting the provincial capital, it is at least
something one can show to visitors coming to Quetta who might
be interested in the mineral wealth of the country and fossil
finds. The museum has exhibited the necessary information not
only for researchers but common visitors as well in all the
galleries so that people visiting the museum can easily understand
the relation between the earth and people. Each museum exhibit
is properly labeled to give first hand knowledge to the visitors
of all ages about the rich mineral resources of the country
and department’s fossil discoveries. A huge amount of
specimens are utilized by scientific researchers in and out
of the organization. Museum facilities also include the largest
library of geological sciences for research scholars.
